My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is a beautiful story and well worth the read. The writing is not as strong as other WWII novels, such as All the Light We Cannot See. There is an over-reliance on certain descriptions (e.g., characters "tenting his/her eyes"). Some scenes seemed pulled out of other WWII books or movies (e.g., the women being placed in the shower and fearing they are about to be gassed is straight out of Schindler's List). That being said, it does the job Hannah set out to do--it tells a story of women in WWII that isn't often told.
