The girls had a half day at school today. In our family, early dismissal means an adventure day. The girls had one request. They wanted to go to the Children's Museum of Richmond in Fredericksburg. Fredericksburg is about an hour drive, but the girls do enjoy the imaginary play they can do there. Unfortunately, when we arrived there was a message posted on the door that the museum was closed for a private event. Seriously! I asked a mother standing outside, "Is it really closed? We drove from Alexandria." "Yes," she replied, obviously frustrated. "We drove from D.C." (i.e., even further than we drove).
We both expressed our huge disappointment to the staff. Apparently the closure was buried on a calendar on their website, but it wasn't obvious. Come on people--even our small dance studio puts a banner on the front page of their website announcing a closure. You need to step up the communication in 2017.
But Daniel Tiger's song kept going through my head. "When something seems bad, turn it around and find something good." The D.C. mother texted a friend of hers who said there was a bouncy house play zone in the area. I found the website on my phone and Wazed the directions. KD'z Kidz Zone is buried in an industrial park and I never would have tried it had it not been for that recommendation. It was fantastic!
Because it was still school hours for most kids, we basically had the place to ourselves. Our new friends from D.C. were there as was one other child with his grandmother. All the kids played together wonderfully. When the other children left, my girls kept bouncing until they could bounce no more. They would have made Tigger (another favorite tiger) proud. Thank you so much KD'z Kidz Zone for saving the day. We definitely found something good!
